Boughton will return to his hometown and play with FC Buffalo. Brayton Knapp heads to the Northwest USA and kick it around with the Washington Crossfire and Elliot Fauske returns to the Kitsap Pumas S.C. where he played both indoor and outdoor in 2010-11! LANCERS SEASON ENDS IN PLAYOFF LOSS TO BALTIMORE 14-8

Rochester, NY – In Game 2 of the MISL Eastern Division Final, the Rochester Lancers fell to the Baltimore Blast by a score of 14-8 before 4,106 fans at the Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial. Baltimore takes the series two games to none and they advance to face the Milwaukee Wave in the MISL Finals. The Lancers were led offensively by Andrew Hoxie with 4 points (2-point goal and 2 assists) and Doug Miller with 3 points (2-point goal and assist). Patrick Hannigan made 11 saves in goal for the Lancers.

The Lancers brought the early pressure and less than a minute into the game, the Blast would get a counter-attack goal as Adriano Dos Santos found Max Ferdinand in behind the Lancers defense and he would finish it to give Baltimore the early lead. A little over six minutes later, the Blast would double their lead when Mike Lookingland found Machel Millwood just off the top of the Lancers penalty area and Millwood turned and finished to double the Baltimore lead. The Lancers would get on the board less than three minutes later when Doug Miller found a streaking Andrew Hoxie who ripped a shot high past the Baltimore goalkeeper Sagu to make it 4-2 Baltimore after one quarter of play.

Both teams had a few really good chances in the second-quarter, but neither team was able to score. The Lancers best chance game on the powerplay when Rey 'Boom Boom' Martinez headed a pass to Lubo who headed it off the Blast goalpost. The teams went into half-time with Baltimore still up by two points at 4-2.

Just like the first minute of the game, the Blast got a goal from Ferdinand with Dos Santos earning the assist. This time it was a scramble in front of the Lancers goal and Ferdinand finished doubling the Blast lead. Less than two minutes later, Baltimore would score again when Dos Santos had his shot rebound off the end boards and Pat Healey finished into a wide open Lancers goal to give the Blast a six point lead. Under four minutes into the quarter, the Lancers would answer back when Hoxie passed it off the end boards to Jeremy Ortiz who was able to beat Sagu for the goal. A couple of minutes later, the Lancers would score their second straight goal. On the powerplay, Chile would take the restart and feed Doug Miller who powered it into the top of the Blast goal to pull the Lancers back within two points. With less than two minutes left in the third-quarter, Warren Ukah found Healey in the Lancers penalty area and his diving shot eluded Lancers goalkeeper Patrick Hannigan to give the Blast a 10-6 lead heading into the fourth-quarter.

With less than five minutes remaining in regulation, Ferdinand found Millwood on the back-post for the easy tap-in goal. The Lancers pulled Hannigan in favor of the sixth attacker from there and Dos Santos would score off a nice assist from Healey. The Lancers would answer back thirteen seconds later when Hoxie found John Ball on the back-post for the easy tap-in goal. That would be it for the scoring as Baltimore takes Game 2 14-8.

LANCERS LOSE PLAYOFF OPENER IN BALTIMORE 8-2

Baltimore, MD – In Game 1 of the MISL Eastern Division Final, the Rochester Lancers fell to the Baltimore Blast by a score of 8-2. Goalkeeper Patrick Hannigan did his best to keep the game close making 21 saves. Andrew Hoxie would have the only Lancers goal while Doug Miller returned from a calf injury to lead the Lancers with four shots on goal.

The Lancers would get on the scoreboard first when Andrew Hoxie won the race to a loose ball in the Blast penalty area and his lunging shot beat Sagu to give the Lancers the 2-0 lead after one quarter of play.

The Blast would even the match with less than three minutes left in the first-half when Max Ferdinand scored on his third chance in a row off the assist from Adriano Dos Santos to even the match at 2-2 at the interval.

The Blast would take the lead over eleven minutes into the third-quarter when Ferdinand set up Mike Lookingland for the goal off a restart. That would be the only goal of the quarter and Baltimore would take a 4-2 lead into the fourth-quarter.

Baltimore would double the lead early in the fourth-quarter when Pat Healey set up JT Noone for the goal after Patrick Hannigan made the initial save. Ferdinand would get his second of the game off the shootout chance after Hannigan was called for a handball outside of the penalty area. Mauricio Salles would pick up a red card in the last three minutes of play and he will miss Game 2 in Rochester on Monday, but he will be eligible for the mini-game, if necessary. Game 1 would end up going to the Blast with the final score of 8-2.

The Lancers will host Baltimore in the second game of the MISL Eastern Division Finals at 7pm on Monday, March 12^th. If the series is even at 1-1 after the two games, a 15-minute mini-game will be played at the conclusion of Game 2 in Rochester.

Clinched playoff berth for Lancers with 3-point overtime game-winner

TAMPA, Fla. – The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced on Tuesday that Rochester Lancers forward Mauricio Salles had been named the league’s Player of the Week for the 17th week of the 2011-12 season. Salles had 14 points in a pair of games, playing a key role as the Lancers clinched their berth in the MISL Eastern Division Finals.

Salles had three 3-point goals during the weekend, but the most critical came this past Thursday night against the Wichita Wings. With the Lancers needing a victory to claim their place in the playoffs, Salles struck from long range to give his side a 20-17 win, sending the crowd of 6,720 fans into celebrations.

Salles is only the second player to reach the 80-point plateau in the MISL this season, sitting second behind league-leader Geison of the Missouri Comets. The Brazilian’s 10-point game against the Wings was a franchise record, and added to a pair of nine-point games earlier this season.

Other players considered for the award included the Missouri Comets’ Byron Alvarez, who had a standout six-goal performance as his side defeated the Milwaukee Wave 21-6 on Sunday afternoon. Alvarez’s 13-point game, which included four power play goals, set a new single-game season high and vaulted the 2010-11 Most Valuable Player into third place in the points race. Norfolk’s Miguel Ferrer also had a standout performance, recording a hat trick in the SharX’s loss to Baltimore, while last week’s Player of the Week Machel Millwood continued his standout season with a six-point game against the SharX on two goals and two assists.

The MISL regular season concludes this weekend with three games, all of which can be seen on MISL Live (www.misllivesoccer.com), the league’s free online video service. On Friday night the Baltimore Blast host the Wichita Wings at 1st Mariner Arena before the Wings move on to meet the Norfolk SharX on Sunday afternoon at Norfolk Scope Arena. The Blast also conclude their regular season on Sunday as they face the Syracuse Silver Knights at the Oncenter War Memorial.

The following weekend, the MISL Playoffs open as the Rochester Lancers and Baltimore Blast meet in the Eastern Division Finals, the Blast hosting Game 1 on Saturday, March 10 with the Lancers hosting Game 2 on Monday, March 12, and the Missouri Comets and Milwaukee Wave meet in the Central Division Finals, the Comets hosting Game 1 on Friday, March 9 and the Wave hosting Game 2 on Sunday, March 11. Playoff Bound Lancers Honor Their Own in Pregame Awards Ceremony

(Rochester, NY) – The Rochester Lancers concluded their successful 2011-12 regular season with a 10-2 win against the Wichita Wings on Sunday at the Blue Cross Arena. The season witnessed many individual and team accomplishments and prior to Sunday’s game against the Wings the Lancers held their annual awards honoring season-long individual achievements.

The club’s Most Valuable Player award went to Doug Miller who at 42, returned to professional soccer and tallied 25 goals and 66 points despite missing the team’s finale due to injury. Fellow striker Mauricio Salles and goalkeeper Patrick Hannigan returned to the Flower City this season to capture the club’s Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year awards respectively. Rochester wraps up their inaugural season with an 11-13 record and a trip to the MISL playoffs. The club will take on the regular season divisional champion Baltimore Blast in the Eastern Division Finals on Saturday, March 10 at First Mariner Arena in Baltimore beginning at 7:30 p.m. Game two of the series will take place at the Blue Cross Arena on Monday, March 12 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m.

LANCERS CLOSE OUT REGULAR SEASON WITH A 10-2 WIN OVER WICHITA

Rochester, NY – The Rochester Lancers (11-13) closed out their 2011-12 MISL regular season with a 10-2 win over the visiting Wichita Wings (7-15) in front of 5,211 fans. The Lancers were led offensively by Mauricio Salles who had 4 point with a 3-point goal and an assist. Irondequoit’s Jake Schindler had a 2-point goal and an assist and John Ball had 2 assists. Gavin McInerney made his Lancers debut in goal and made 14 saves in getting the win. The Lancers now get almost two weeks off to prepare for the playoffs and they face the Baltimore Blast in the MISL’s Eastern Division Finals.

The Lancers would get the lone goal of the first-quarter, scoring just under seven minutes into the game when John Ball took a restart and found an open Mauricio Salles who stepped into a shot from 3-point land and scored.

The Wings would get on the scoreboard when Kevin Ten Eyck founding a streaking Bryan Perez, who had just gotten out of the penalty box, for the easy tap-in goal to make it 3-2 Lancers after 30 minutes of play.

Six and a half minutes into the third-quarter, Grady Renfrow would clean up the rebound of a Jake Schindler shot to extend the Lancers’ lead to 5-2 after the third-quarter.

A little over a minute into the fourth-quarter, Schindler would head home a rebound of a Salles shot and put the Lancers ahead by five points. With Victor Quiroz wearing the sixth-attacker jersey for the Wings, Elliot Fauske would score a long-range 3-point goal from just beyond the Lancers’ yellow line with Ball getting his second assist of the game to make the final score 10-2 Rochester.

The Lancers will face the Baltimore Blast in the 2012 MISL Eastern Division Finals. The first game of the series will be in Baltimore at 7:35pm on Saturday, March 10th. The Lancers will host the second leg at 7pm on Monday, March 12th. If the series is even at 1-1 after the two games, a 15-minute mini-game will be played at the conclusion of Game 2 in Rochester.

Carlos "Chile" Farias added six points (1 3-point goal 1 2-point goal 1 assist) and Gary Boughton contributed five points (1 2-point goal 3 assists). Patrick Hannigan made 9 saves and had an assist in goal for the Lancers. The Lancers will face the Baltimore Blast in the MISL Eastern Division Finals. The first game of the series will be in Baltimore at 7:35pm on Saturday, March 10th. The Lancers will host the second leg at 7pm on Monday, March 12th. Just under three minutes in, Mauricio Salles would open the scoring when he turned on a Wings defender and scored from a tight angle. Almost five minutes later, Wichita would take their first lead of the game when Kevin Ten Eyck pounced on a Lancers turnover and scored from beyond the 3-point arc. A little over a minute later, Jamie Harding would find Ten Eyck for his second goal of the game, this time from 2-point range to give Wichita a 5-2 lead after the first-quarter.

Under three minutes into the second-quarter, Lancers goalkeeper played the long ball to Salles who used the boards and then scored his second of the game. With under four minutes to go in the half, Angel Rivillo would set up Ten Eyck for his second 3-point goal and his third goal overall. The Lancers would answer back a little over a minute later when Jeremy Ortiz set up Lubo Kocic to pull the Lancers to within two points. A little over a minute after the Lubo goal, Gary Boughton would unselfishly set up Carlos "Chile" Farias for the goal that would pull the Lancers even with the Wings as they went to the half with the score at 8-8.

A little over six minutes into the third-quarter, Salles would play a give and go with Lubo and then finish for the hat trick to give the Lancers the lead. Wichita would answer back just 28 seconds later when Victor Quiroz set up Bryan Perez for the goal that pulled the Wings even with the Lancers once again. Three minutes later, Quiroz would set up Ten Eyck for his fourth goal of the game to put the Wings back into the lead. Seventeen seconds later, Salles would find Boughton in the Wings penalty area and Boughton would head home his own rebound to level the game at 12-12. Twenty-three seconds after that, the Lancers would retake the lead when Boughton found Chile and he ripped a goal from beyond the 3-point arc. With under a minute left in the third-quarter, Quiroz found Perez who scored from 3-point range to tie the game at 15-15 after three quarters of play.

The Lancers would push back ahead just under seven minutes into the final quarter when John Ball scored his first goal as a Lancer on another great assist by Boughton. The Wings would tie the game up with under a minute left and Quiroz wearing the sixth attacker jersey as Jamar Beasley found Chris Lemons who scored his first of the game to send it to overtime.

Just under six minutes into overtime, Chile would set up Salles for the game-winning 3-point powerplay goal to make the final score 20-17.

The Lancers close out the regular season at 1:00 pm on Sunday, February 26th as they host the Wichita Wings. LANCERS RALLY FALLS SHORT IN 13-11 LOSS IN MISSOURI

Independence, MO – The Rochester Lancers (9-13) had their rally fall just short in a 13-11 loss to the Missouri Comets (14-8). The Lancers ended the game on a six point run and had a tying goal saved by Comets goalkeeper Danny Waltman with two seconds left in the game. The Lancers were led offensively by Doug Miller who had a five point game (two 2-point goals and an assist). Patrick Hannigan made twelve saves in goal for the Lancers.

Missouri opened up the scoring when Tiguinho found Neto in front and he back-heeled it home for the early Comets lead. The Lancers would take their first lead of the game when Mauricio Salles took a free kick from outside the 3-point arc and he put it home with his big left foot. Late in the quarter, Tiguinho would again find Neto for the goal. This time it was Neto unmarked on the back-post for the tap-in goal to make it 4-3 Missouri after one quarter of play.

The Lancers would once again retake the lead when a three man break had Jeremy Ortiz getting it to Doug Miller who set up Andrew Hoxie for the goal. The Comets would take the lead when Byron Alvarez set up John Sosa in the box for the easy header into the goal. Neto would get his third goal of the game when Brian Harris found him just outside the 3-point arc and he blasted it home to give the Comets their largest lead of the game to that point at 9-5 as the teams headed to the locker rooms for half-time.

The lone goal of the third-quarter came on a counter-attack as Lucas Rodriguez found Geison in front for the goal with six seconds left in the quarter to make it 11-5 Comets heading into the fourth-quarter.

Mid-way through the fourth quarter, Geison would get his second straight goal off a beautiful assist from Alvarez. The Lancers would get back on the scoreboard when Ortiz found Miller behind the Comets defense and he beat Comets goalkeeper Danny Waltman low. Less than a minute later, Carlos "Chile" Farias set up Gary Boughton for the goal to pull the Lancers to within four points with just over five minutes to play. With both teams playing a man short and Chile donning the sixth attacker jersey, John Ball found Miller on the back-post for his second goal of the game to make the final score 13-11 in favor of the Missouri Comets.

LANCERS GET IMPORTANT 16-10 WIN IN WICHITA

Wichita, KS – The Rochester Lancers (9-12) won 16-10 over the Wichita Wings (7-12) this evening. The Lancers were led offensively with five points from Doug Miller (3-point goal and 2-point goal) and Mauricio Salles (3-point goal and 2-point goal), while Gary Boughton added four points (2 2-point goals). Patrick Hannigan made 12 saves in goal for the Lancers. With the win, the Lancers have a one game lead over the Syracuse Silver Knights for the second playoff spot in the MISL’s Eastern Division.

The Lancers would open the scoring just over twelve minutes into the game when Carlos "Chile" Farias set up Doug Miller for the left-footed powerplay goal. Mauricio Salles would double the Lancers lead less than a minute before the end of the first-quarter to give Rochester a 4-0 lead after fifteen minutes of play.

The Lancers would score over four minutes into the second-quarter when Kyle Manscuk scored his fourth goal of the season. A little over two minutes later, Gary Boughton’s fifth goal of the season would push the Lancers lead to 8-0. The Wings would get on the board just under ten minutes into the second-quarter with Jamie Harding taking the restart pass from Angel Rivillo Ruiz. Twenty-eight seconds later, Boughton would get his second of the game as he pounced on a rebound and put it into the top of the Wings goal. A little over a minute later, Bryan Perez would score on the counter for Wichita to pull them back to within six points at 10-4 after one half of play.

Wichita would take advantage of a Lancers penalty when Kevin Ten Eyck scored off the Perez assist under three minutes into the second-half. The Lancers would answer back on a powerplay of their own with Chile finding Salles who hammered it home from 3-point range to give the Lancers a 13-8 lead as the third-quarter came to a close.

Just under nine minutes into the fourth-quarter, Jamar Beasley toe-poked home the pass from Rivillo to pull Wichita to within three points. With Wichita pulling the keeper in favor of the sixth attacker, Miller scored into the empty goal from beyond the 3-point arc to make the final score 16-10 for the Rochester Lancers.

The Lancers return to action when they travel to take on the Missouri Comets at 4:10 pm on Sunday, February 19th. The Lancers next home match will be at 7:00 pm on Thursday, February 23rd as they host the Wichita Wings.
