Rochester, NY – The Rochester Lancers (8-12) fell at home to the Syracuse Silver Knights (8-12) by a score of 23-9 this afternoon in front of an announced crowd of 7,210 fans. The Lancers were led offensively by Doug Miller (2 2-point goals and an assist) and Carlos "Chile" Farias (3-point goal and 2-point goal) with five points apiece. Goalkeeper Patrick Hannigan made eight saves for the Lancers. The game also marked the Lancers debut of defender John Ball who had three shots in the game. The loss puts the Lancers in a tie for second place with Syracuse in the MISL’s Eastern Division.
Syracuse would get on the board first just under six minutes into the game when Ryan Pierce poked home a rebound of a Slavisa Ubiparapovic shot. There was plenty of action, but Syracuse goalkeeper Brian O'Quinn would make four saves and Lancers goalkeeper Patrick Hannigan would make five saves to keep the game at 2-0 Syracuse after one quarter of play.
Early in the second-quarter, O'Quinn's long throw found Enrique Tovar and his shot snuck just inside the near post to double the Silver Knights lead. Eight minutes later, Tovar would set up Cory Elenio in the Lancers penalty area for the goal. Less than a minute later, the Silver Knights would score again as Andriy Budnyy set up Darren Toby on the back post for the goal to give Syracuse an 8-0 lead at the half.
Syracuse would score first coming out of the half-time break as Nelson Santana converted the top of the arc restart off the assist from Ubiparapovic. Carlos “Chile” Farias would get the Lancers on the board less than five minutes into the quarter. With Marcos Chantel off for striking, Lubo found Farias just off the top of the 3-point arc and Farias beat O'Quinn with a right footed shot. Syracuse would answer back with a 3-point goal of their own as Kenardo Forbes set up Budnyy on a quick counterattack to push the Silver Knights lead to ten points. Chile would get his second of the game off a top of the arc restart with Doug Miller getting the assist to make it 13-5 Syracuse at the end of the third-quarter.
The Lancers would score just over a minute into the final quarter as Jake Schindler found Miller on the counter attack and Miller would finish it past O’Quinn. Ten seconds later, Ubiparapovic would score off the rebound of a Daniel Stevens shot. Elenio would get his second of the game when he created a turnover deep in Lancers' territory and finished into the upper-ninety. Miller would get his second of the game as Mauricio Salles took the restart and found Miller who finished high past O'Quinn. With two Lancers in the penalty box, Santana would score his second of the game with Tovar getting the assist. Santana would get the hat trick with the Lancers still shorthanded as he corralled a loose ball near the top of the penalty area and put it away. Jon Gruenewald would score into the empty goal with Hannigan pulled in favor of the sixth attacker to make the final score 23-9 Syracuse.
