Rochester Lancers (22) vs. Syracuse Silver Knights (13)

Official MISL: Boxscore | Printable gamesheet

The Rochester Lancers travelled to Syracuse for the back end of the home and home series with the Silver Knights and defeated  the Silver Knights by a 22-13 score. Once again, it was a balanced scoring attack for the Lancers with Mauricio Salles, Doug Miller, Brayton Knapp, and Lubo all chipping in a pair of goals for the Lancers.

The Silver Knights didn’t want to get down early like on Saturday evening in Rochester, and Slavisa Ubiparapovic scoring less than a minute into the game ensured that they wouldn’t. The Lancers answered back less than three minutes later when Lubo converted a Lancers power play off of a free kick assist from Will Kletzien. The Lancers took their first lead of the night when Mauricio Salles slipped by two Syracuse defenders and slipped the ball inside the far post. Doug Miller quickly doubled the Lancers advantage to 6-2 when he scored just eleven seconds later. Mauricio Salles scored his second of the night after Eric Reed made a save and pushed the rebound right to Salles’ feet. There was no more scoring for the final eight and a half minutes of the first quarter and it remained an 8-2 Lancers lead after the first quarter.

Andrew Hoxie scored the lone goal in the second quarter on a nice pass from Elliot Fauske. The tough Lancers defense held the Silver Knights to only five shots on goal in the first half and shut the Silver Knights out for the last 29:16 of the half.

Just like in the first half, Ubiparapovic tallied a goal early in the quarter as he beat two Lancers to a loose ball in the box and toe poked it home to make the score 10-4 less than two minutes into the third quarter. Ubiparapovic scored his third of the evening on the powerplay with Doug Miller in the penalty box for holding to pull the Silver Knights to within four points of the Lancers. Gary Boughton stopped the Silver Knights rally as he snuck behind the Syracuse defense and slipped a shot past a diving Eric Reed to get the Lancers lead back to six points. Syracuse responded with a goal from Jeff Hughes after the Lancers failed to clear the ball out of their end. Hughes scored his second straight goal of the game less than a minute later to pull the Silver Knights to within two points at 12-10. Brayton Knapp found himself one v one with Eric Reed and he calmly slotted the ball home to push the Lancers lead to 14-10. Doug Miller scored his second goal of the game after Kyle Manscuk forced a turnover deep into Syracuse territory. That would close out the scoring in a wild third quarter with the Lancers ahead 16-10.

Jeremy Ortiz scored his first goal of the evening just under three minutes into the fourth quarter to extend the Lancers lead back to eight points. Jeff Hughes came back and scored his third goal of the evening. This time he scored the first three point goal of the evening and brought the Silver Knights back with five points. It took only seventeen seconds for the Lancers to respond when Brayton Knapp scored his second of the evening with Andrew Hoxie getting the assist. Lubo then blocked an attempted Eric Reed clearance and scored into the open goal for his second of the night as the Lancers pushed their lead to 22-13. Lancers goalkeeper Patrick Hannigan was hurt after stopping Syracuse’s Andre Berenzon’s penalty shot attempt with his face. He shook off the knock and finished out the game in the Lancers’ goal. The Silver Knights pulled Eric Reed for the sixth attacker with a little over a minute to play in the game. But, that would be all the scoring in the game and the Lancers would win their second straight over Syracuse in the last five days by a 22-13 score. The win evens the Lancers’ record at 2-2 and pulls them within half a game of Syracuse and Baltimore for the lead in the MISL’s Eastern Division.
