Rochester Lancers (16) vs. Norfolk Sharx (2)
Thursday, December 1, 2011 - 7:00 pm
Norfolk Scope Arena

Norfolk, VA – The Rochester Lancers (3-3) were led by Mauricio Salles’ seven point night (3 goals and 1 assist) as they defeated the Norfolk SharX 16-2 this evening. With the win, the Lancers were able to pull into a tie for second place in the MISL’s Eastern Division with the Syracuse Silver Knights.

The SharX and Lancers played an up and down first quarter. But, neither team was able to get one past the other’s goalkeeper. Mauricio Salles did have a blast of his big left foot that just missed high and the SharX had a few chances of their own including a dangerous illegal procedure free kick that they were unable to convert.

The Lancers were the first team to get on the scoreboard early in the second quarter. Mauricio Salles was able to blast a free kick past a three man wall and into the upper corner to put the Lancers up 2-0 less than a minute into the second quarter. Midway through the quarter, Salles turned playmaker setting up Jeremy Ortiz to double the Lancers lead heading to the halftime break.

In the third quarter, Irondequoit’s Jake Schindler picked up his first professional goal to push the Lancers lead to 6-0 off an assist by Will Kletzien. A little over a minute later, Salles was upset at a non-call and took his anger out on the ball as he powered home his second of the night off his left foot. The third quarter would come to an end with the Lancers holding a big 8-0 lead.

The SharX scored their lone goal of the night in the first minute of the fourth quarter as Miguel Ferrer, Norfolk’s leading scorer, was able to get on the scoresheet and break Lancers goalkeeper Patrick Hannigan’s shutout bid. Thirty-four seconds later, Brayton Knapp put away an Andrew Hoxie pass to answer back for the Lancers. Salles got the hat trick with his third goal of the game off of a Doug Miller assist at the six minute mark of the fourth quarter. The Lancers were scoring just twenty seconds later with Andrew Hoxie finishing off an assist from Lubo. The Lancers closed out the scoring just under a minute later with Ortiz scoring his second of the night on Doug Miller’s second assist of the night.

The Lancers return home to host the Baltimore Blast at 7:00pm on Saturday, December 3rd at the Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial.
