Way from Littlehampton England, a young Will Stone always dreamed about playing soccer. Growing up he admired Thierry Henry and Arsenal, wanting to emulate his idol. Playing locally in England, he started playing for Brighton Academy as a youth, and even spent a year playing in Denmark. He moved on to play Littlehampton FC, and Bognor Regis in the English 7th tier before moving to the United States.
Coming to the United States gave Will the opportunity to grow as a student and as a player. After 2 successful seasons at Genesee Community College, where he was a 2-time All-American and lead the nation in scoring in 2016. His talents will take him to Wilmington University in Delaware this fall.
Playing for the Lancers supplemented his American soccer experience as the college soccer season only lasts a few months over the fall. He told me of his admiration for coach Doug Miller and his coaching style, and his fondness for the Lancer fans.
He looks to finish what he started last year, after coming so close to making the playoffs in 2017. I asked for him to reach double digits in goals this year, and he said his target is 10. Hopefully he will surpass that total and lead the Lancers to playoffs and beyond.
