FIRST PLAYOFF WIN IN 42 YEARS!

Rochester, NY:  LANCERS WIN! The NPSL Rochester Lancers traveled to Gannon University in Erie PA today, Thursday July 18, to continue Tuesday’s game against AFC Ann Arbor. Lancers won in penalty kicks! The Lancers will now travel to Detroit for the Regional Semi Finals tomorrow, Friday July 19 to take on Cleveland SC.

Tuesday’s game ended in a 0-0 tie after approximately 69 minutes of play, with 2 weather delays and inadequate stadium lighting. The league decided that AFC Ann Arbor and the Rochester Lancers must finish the game at a neutral location to determine who moves onto the Regional Semi Finals.

Tonight’s game started at the 69th minute of play with a 0-0 score to continue Tuesday’s game. The Rochester Lancers scored at 87’ (Kissi) but AFC Ann Arbor immediately followed with a goal at 88’. The teams were tied again 1-1 at Full Time. Two 10 minute over times followed, scoreless. Cunningham scored the first goal in PKs for Rochester, and AFC Ann Arbor missed their first shot with an unbelievable save by Lancers GK Andrew Coughlin! Rochester won in PKs with Rochester goals following Cunningham’s by MoMo, Bourdeau, Kissi and Rafa.

The Lancers now hope to defeat Cleveland SC on Friday in Detroit at 4:30pm, to then play in the Regional Finals on Sunday, July 21.  Tonight’s game was the outdoor Lancers first playoff win in 42 years!
