ONTARIO, Calif. – The Rochester Lancers are the third-best team in Major Arena Soccer League 2.

Jeremy Ortiz scored with 39.3 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to to snap a 7-7 deadlock as the Lancers registered an 8-7 win over the Las Vegas Knights in the third-place match of the league championship at Citizens Bank Arena Saturday.

Rochester dropped an 11-10 overtime decision to Cuervos of Juarez in the semifinals Friday.

After the match, the Lancers received a third-place trophy from M2 commissioner Kevin Milliken, which was the first piece of hardware the team had earned since the incarnation of the club from 1967-80. Rochester won the 1970 North American Soccer League title.

In the second game of the M2 playoffs Saturday, Juarez met the San Diego Sockers 2 for the M2 crown. San Diego completed their perfect season with a 7-5 win to take home the M2 Championship Trophy.
