For Immediate Release: February 9, 2021

(Rochester, NY) Last week the Rochester Lancers of the Major Arena Soccer League, announced that the team will not play the 2021 indoor season in conjunction with the league’s COVID-19 Voluntary opt out policy. Today, Jake Schindler was officially loaned to the Florida Tropics for the remainder of the 2021 season. Per league and team policies, no further terms of the agreement were disclosed.

With the Dome Arena being used by the state as a COVID vaccination center well into the season, that left the Lancers without a place to call home. The Lancers decision to not play was joined by the rest of the Eastern Division teams in the MASL.

“Jake is the best defender in the league. I’m happy he has the opportunity to reunite with his former teammate and the other Lancer Legend, Joey Tavernese and quite possibly win an MASL championship,” said SoccerSam Fantauzzo.

The Tropics are the defending Eastern conference champions and currently sit in 2nd place of the MASL standings. Florida will take on the Sidekicks in Dallas this Friday, Feb 12 and then return home for 3 games, February 18, 19 & 21.

“The Florida Tropics are delighted to add a player of Jake’s caliber for the remainder of the MASL season,” said Clay Roberts, Florida Tropics Head Coach.  “We are grateful for the fantastic organization that SoccerSam operates and their willingness to loan such a talented player during the unfortunate situation we are all facing during this pandemic.”

“Though I’m saddened by the covid restrictions that resulted in the loss of a season for Rochester, I’m looking forward to a new challenge and opportunity in Florida,” said Jake Schindler. “I’m thankful for the Lancers and Tropics ownership groups for being able to negotiate a loan deal that allows me to join a very competitive squad and compete daily for a championship.”

The Lancers will return for 2022 MASL Indoor Season and have shifted focus to planning for the 2021 UWS and NPSL outdoor seasons.
