SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Austin Gerber struck twice within a four-minute span late in the second half to power the Rochester Lancers to a 2-0 victory over Syracuse FC in a National Premier Soccer League game on Monday night.

The win avenged a 3-2 home defeat to its New York State Thruway rivals June 27.

The Lancers (2-5-1, 7 points) moved into fourth place while Syracuse (1-4-3, 6) dropped into a last-place tie with Erie Commodores FC in the Rust Belt Conference.

Goalkeeper Brian Wilkin recorded the shutout, the club’s second clean sheet of the season. Rochester blanked Erie, 1-0, on June 6.

Gerber scored in the 71st and 75th minutes.

The Lancers will close out their regular season with a pair of road matches this weekend. They meet FC Buffalo at All High Stadium in Buffalo Saturday, July 10 at 7 p.m. before visiting the Pittsburgh Hotspurs at Founders Field in Pittsburgh, Pa. on Sunday July 11 at 5 p.m.

The Lady Lancers also will play their final match of the season when they visit FC Buffalo for a United Women’s Soccer match at Robert Rich Stadium on Saturday, July 10 at 4 p.m.
