Lancers drop their first road match with 7-1 loss at Harrisburg

HARRISBURG, Pa. (December 7, 2019) -- In their first road match of the season, the Rochester Lancers suffered a 7-1 defeat to the Harrisburg Heat in Major Arena Soccer League action at the Farm Show Arena on Saturday night.

Heat forward Dominic Francis, who quickly has become a Lancers nemesis, recorded his second consecutive hat-trick against the team.

Co-captain Anthony Rozzano scored Rochester's (0-3) lone goal.

The Heat (2-0) bolted out to a 4-0 first-quarter advantage, scoring three times in the opening 6:01.

Dylan Hundelt gave the hosts a 1-0 lead, scoring from atop the penalty arc past newly signed goalkeeper Brian Wilkin at 2:34. Francis doubled the lead off a kick-in at 5:07. No. 25 ran over the ball before Francis fired it home. William Eskay made it 3-0, connecting from the left side as Wilkin was shielded on the play, at 6:01.  Danny DiPrima was credited with goal after his shot inadvertently was headed into the net by a Rochester player at 13:18.

The Lancers played the Heat even in the second period. Cunningham put away a Jeremy Ortiz feed past former Brighton High School star goalkeeper William Banahane to cut the margin to 4-1 at 6:51. Harrisburg got a goal back on Francis' shootout goal to the lower left side at 9:57 after Anthony Rozzano received a blue card for fouling JJ Gibson.

After being out-shot by the host side in the opening period, 11-3, the Lancers enjoyed a 7-1 advantage in the second quarter.

Harrisburg added to its lead in the third quarter, turning a Lancers turnover into an Elton de Oliveira goal at 3:23 for a 6-1 margin.

Francis closed out the scoring with a power-play goal at 9:11 of the fourth period.

The Lancers killed off three of four Heat power plays.

These two teams will meet again at the Farm Show Arena on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 7:05 p.m. The game can be seen on MASL.TV.

The Lancers then will have a week off before returning to action with back-to-back home matches over Christmas weekend. They host the Heat again the Dome Arena in Henrietta, N.Y. on Friday, Dec. 27 and the Baltimore Blast on Saturday, Dec. 28. Both games kick off at 7 p.m
