For Immediate Release: March 19, 2021

(Rochester, NY) The Rochester Lancers of the Major Arena Soccer League, announced in early February that the team would not play the 2021 indoor season in conjunction with the league’s COVID-19 Voluntary opt out policy. Today, Goalkeeper Matt Perrella was officially loaned to the St. Louis Ambush for the remainder of the 2021 season. Per league and team policies, no further terms of the agreement were disclosed.

With the Dome Arena being used by the state as a COVID vaccination center well into the season, that left the Lancers without a place to call home. The Lancers decision to not play was joined by the rest of the Eastern Division teams in the MASL.

“I wish Matt and all the members of our Lancers family that are still playing all the best in the MASL playoffs,” said Salvatore ‘SoccerSam’ Fantauzzo.

The Ambush begin their playoff push with a two-game series in Kansas City verses the Comets March 26 and then will return to the Family Arena in St. Louis on March 28 for game two. If there is a tie after game 2 then a 15-minute mini game will be played immediately following game two to determine who moves on.

“I’m extremely thankful for the opportunity this late in the season for St. Louis to have the faith in me to come in and do a job if I’m called upon,” said Matt Perrella. “I have tremendous respect for Paolo and it’s going to be great to work with and support him and the entire team for this playoff run.”

The Lancers will return for 2022 MASL Indoor Season and are focused on planning for the 2021 UWS and NPSL outdoor seasons.
